RPO Process Part 1: RPO Defined

RPO or recruitment process outsourcing is a fast growing industry that enterprises have started taking advantage of. It is a process that aids companies in sourcing and retaining talented candidates.

An RPO generally has the scope of varying responsibilities, right from becoming a full recruitment department to being responsible for meeting hiring objectives of specific departments, locations or segments.

Recruitment Outsourcing

There are many reasons why a company may approach RPO companies for their recruitment process. Some of the reasons can be described as follows:

  • If companies require new recruiting talent and scalability
  • Reducing the overall hiring cost and the cost of contingent & retained search
  • Creating a recruitment strategy that is well planned and managed (by the recruitment process outsourcing partner)
  • Enabling the company to focus on core business and the HR on strategy
  • To reduce hiring time, obtaining better qualified talent in terms of skillset and experience

Although recruitment process outsourcing serves better in terms of recruitment processes, it is important to have thorough knowledge of the entire RPO process. This will help you set the right goals and expectations for your recruitment strategy. It will also help you choose the most suitable type of RPO provider or outsourcing partner.

The RPO process is divided into three levels, which are described below:

Level 1 RPO

This is the stage where the participants are mostly technology companies, some of which may be located offshore. Their approach is dependent on use of technology such as sourcing through the internet and resume analyzing tools used for sourcing candidates based on the information in their resume. Although their approach is looked upon as being rigid, it often proves successful.

Level 2 RPO

At the second level of the RPO process, you add the screening component in addition to the 1st level procedure. This will help you come up with a list of qualified candidates for each of the positions to be filled.

RPO companies providing the 2nd level services source and screen the candidates through a live or internet based interview, qualifying them for your required position. You are then only left with selecting the best candidates amongst those qualified and start with the onboarding process.

Level 3 RPO

This level of recruitment process outsourcing includes activities of both the above mentioned levels along with outsourcing across the complete recruiting continuum. The companies that provide level 3 services, also known as RPO 3.0, should have a strategic partnership such that, the results obtained can be aligned with their client’s organizational objectives.

To better understand RPO 3.0, it is important that we know what recruiting continuum is. In our next post, we will be discussing the RPO continuum along with different types of RPO.
